December 2024 from a Saanich Resident.

Thanks you Councillor Chambers for your support and listening in the importance of having a police presence in schools that meets the needs of the whole community. This can only be done through collaboration, partnership and relationships which you and others have promoted. Your dedication has shown true leadership for our community.
Mutual understanding is required to ensure safe and effective care while promoting collaboration. Such measures are essential to ensure effective and compassionate care of people in crisis while prioritizing safety for all involved.
School Police Liaison Officer programs are designed to build meaningful relationships between students and officers, serving as a bridge between schools, families, and communities.
This program is about fostering trust, creating connections, and ensuring every student feels safe and supported in their learning environment.
When an officer’s presence becomes a source of mentorship and support, it starts to replace fear with trust.  A police uniform should and can become a symbol of security and reassurance for all.
We should emphasized collaboration and forward-thinking, recognizing past concerns while advocating for reforms to enhance the program’s equity and impact.  The program can be reimagined as a tool for safety, inclusion, and connection.
Thank you for helping to create a meaningful step toward a safer, more trusting, and less divisive community.
